Meet the Author

Hi, I’m Robert Ryan — the writer, builder, and solo voice behind zelda-source.com. If you’ve found yourself here looking for clean WoW guides, class builds, or just a bit of help making sense of the latest patch, then we’ve already got something in common.

This site isn’t backed by a studio or a media group. It’s just me. I write everything myself, test builds on live servers, and only publish what I’ve used in real runs — not what I’ve heard secondhand or skimmed from a tooltip. I’ve been playing World of Warcraft since 2005, and I’ve been writing about it for nearly just as long.

How It Started

My WoW story began in university. A friend lent me a copy of the game and said, “Just try it.” I logged in, rolled a Rogue, and got completely lost in Darnassus. I spent my first few levels thinking grey gear was rare, and I thought auto-attack would handle most fights. I learned quickly — usually after dying.

Since then, I’ve played every expansion, cleared raids from Karazhan to Aberrus, and learned what it means to lead groups, swap mains, and push keys when the healer DCs at the worst possible time. I’ve never taken a real break from the game. Sometimes I play more, sometimes less, but I’ve always been around.

What I Do Here

zelda-source.com is where I publish everything I’ve learned in a format I wish existed when I was learning: clear, simple, and tested. I focus on content like:

  • Dungeon and raid tips that don’t assume you’re in a Mythic team
  • Class builds that actually feel good to play, not just the “highest sim”
  • Addon and UI guides that help you see more and click less
  • Patch breakdowns with real advice, not copy-paste summaries

I test all of it myself. When I recommend something, it’s because I’ve used it in actual dungeons, raids, or live content — not just the training dummy.

What I Play

I’ve played every class at least to cap, but right now I rotate between a Brewmaster Monk for keys and a Balance Druid for raiding. I raid twice a week and run Mythic+ a few nights, usually with a small static group. I’m not chasing Cutting Edge, but I aim for Ahead of the Curve every tier and I always get my KSM.

When I’m not raiding, I like collecting mounts, tweaking my UI for the hundredth time, and checking the Auction House to see what’s actually selling. I also test low-effort gold farming methods to include in guides here, especially ones that don’t require endless hours of grind.

What I Don’t Do

Just to be clear — I’m not a streamer, I don’t take sponsored posts, and I don’t flood the site with ads. I’m not trying to “monetize” everything. I want this site to stay focused on what it was meant to do: help real players play better.

Where I’m Based

I live in Sheffield, United Kingdom. It’s not a big city, but it’s got everything I need: quiet parks, a few good pubs, and reliable broadband. I work from home, write full-time, and spend a lot of hours each week in-game — testing builds, reviewing patch content, and updating old guides to make sure they still hold up.

Want to Reach Out?

I read every email myself, and I reply to all reasonable messages. If you’ve got feedback, a suggestion, or just want to share your WoW experience, I’d love to hear it.
